Compounded preparations, medications made one at a time for a patient whose need no commercial product covers, are still made by hand in most pharmacies. Each batch depends on the hands of the person preparing it, traceability lives in a logbook, and compliance is shown after the fact rather than at the source.

The product

The team is designing a system that carries out the preparation reproducibly and records each step as it happens. The pharmacy keeps control of the formulation; the device makes sure the tenth batch is identical to the first.

What it changes in practice
