Garage&co

A flow of companies assessed, prepared and de-risked

Garage&co works with the investors looking for Quebec hardtech companies that have been prepared with rigour: venture capital funds, angel investors, family offices and corporate investors. We build the bridge between the companies we support and the capital that understands their cycles.

How we assess a company

We assess every company we support with the Garage Readiness Level, our diagnostic, and we keep that assessment current through the whole program. We score a hardtech company on a scale of 1 to 9, across eight dimensions. An investor gets a common language out of it: when we present a company, we state precisely where it stands, dimension by dimension, on criteria that hold constant from one company to the next.

A flow of qualified companies

More than 75 companies have come through our programs since 2023, across six sectors. We know each of them from the inside, over months of work, and we introduce investors to the ones whose stage and sector match their thesis.

De-risked companies

The companies we support fund their riskiest iterations with non-dilutive capital before they raise. By the first meeting, the team has demonstrated technical feasibility, tested the market through real pilots and documented its cost structure with manufacturers already identified.

Non-dilutive capital first

Prepared meetings

We work with each company before an introduction, on what investor meetings ask of a founder: the narrative, the financial model, the valuation position. We stay available through diligence to share our own reading of the file, with the GRL diagnostic to hand.

A point of entry into Quebec hardtech

Few ecosystems concentrate an industrial base and applied research on a territory as accessible as Quebec. Garage&co is the point of entry: one place, one team and a network of more than 60 manufacturers across Quebec and Canada, so an investor can read the whole sector without walking it alone. Our team prepares every file we present with care.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of companies does Garage&co support?

We support Quebec hardtech companies across six sectors: medical devices, aerospace and defense, climate technologies, advanced materials, industrial robotics and IoT, agtech. The companies move through three continuous programs, Connect, Incubation and Croissance, and they range from feasibility validation to first recurring sales.

At what stage is a company ready to meet investors?

The companies in Croissance make up the core of what we bring to investors, because they have validated a market through pilots or first sales and they have production on its way to industrialization. Some companies in Incubation meet investors as well, to prepare a coming round or when their support plan calls for it.

What does the Garage Readiness Level add to an investor's diligence?

The GRL sets out a structured assessment of a company across eight dimensions, which we update throughout the program. It does not replace your diligence. It speeds it up, because we document a company's progression on criteria that stay constant and we name the dimensions that are strongest next to the ones that still need work.

Does Garage&co take equity in the companies it supports?

No. We never exchange support for shares. The companies keep full freedom over their financing decisions, and our role with investors is that of a trusted intermediary, with no conflict of interest on the cap table.

How does an investor get access to the companies Garage&co supports?

Write to us to open the discussion. We start by understanding your investment thesis: sectors, stages, cheque sizes. We then introduce you to the companies that match it, at the point when they are ready.

Does Garage&co run events for investors?

Yes. We invite investors to meet the companies we support, to visit our facilities in the heart of Montreal and to our ecosystem events. You meet the teams in their own working environment, or in front of their prototypes.

Does Garage&co co-invest or invest directly?

No. Garage&co invests no capital of its own and manages none on anyone else's behalf. We prepare the companies we support, and we make the introductions.
