Thermolio

Thermolio, based in Montréal, optimizes heating, ventilation and air conditioning in commercial buildings with artificial intelligence. Four services are offered separately: an energy audit, a retuning of the building management system and existing equipment, a pilot program for federal buildings, and a continuous optimization platform. The audits target portfolios whose energy bill exceeds $50k a year. The platform connects to the equipment in place through BACnet, Modbus and connected sensors, without replacing any hardware.

The gains from an audit erode over time because the building drifts. Schedules fall out of step, setpoints lose their effectiveness, and zones heat and cool at the same time. The website cites LBNL research covering more than 1,500 buildings, according to which about 20% of the savings disappear by the third year without continuous monitoring.
