Éco-Pivot

Éco-Pivot collects geo-referenced environmental data and maps it for cities. Portable devices record air quality, noise and temperature, and the readings are displayed in real time. The map then serves to rank the areas that need action. Municipalities make up the target market.

A city that wants to act on air quality or noise mostly has measurements taken at a few fixed stations. Between these points, the state of the environment is estimated rather than measured, and the street where the problem is concentrated blends in with the rest of the area.

The product

The team is designing portable devices that record air, noise and temperature wherever they go, and an interface that shows these readings on a map, in real time. The municipality keeps the decision: the map shows where the problem is concentrated, and the choice of action stays with the department concerned.

What it changes in practice

• Environmental readings follow the terrain instead of depending on a fixed point, because the devices are portable.
• Areas that need action can be ranked by priority, because each measurement is tied to a position on the map.
• A municipal department sees how an area changes from one reading to the next, because the data is displayed in real time.
